Locations Where Kendo was Learned:
I began my first few months of Kendo training at Seattle Kendo Kai then became part of Highline Kendo Kai when it was founded. During my time as a member of Highline I made several trips to Japan for additional training including a 5-month stay in Osaka to train with the Osaka Police and at many local Dojo. In 1992 I founded the Renton Kendo Club.

Teaching Philosophy Summarized:
My teaching philosophy is: A strong foundation of basic techniques and knowledge is most important. This enables the student to continue to grow and when the training becomes difficult or frustrating they can return to the basics and again see improvement. Without a strong foundation of basics the student will never attain the higher levels of Kendo.

I also believe you must evaluate your students, especially children, constantly to learn from them. They all bring skills and insights to the training that can benefit everyone.

Additional Comments:
Kendo is about life. Training in Kendo provides you with many of life's skills: discipline, etiquette, the will to continue through hardship, a sense of group accomplishment, physical and mental well being. These are all qualities we bring away from Kendo. My fondest Kendo memory is traveling to Russia in December of 1999 to teach and share Kendo with a group of college students.
